D of E
DofE Award at Waldegrave School
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is available to all students who would like to take on the challenge.
The Bronze programme will be launched in October, before half term.
Enrolment for Silver Award is in Year 10, and we offer the Gold to students working in partnership with Richmond D of E Award. Over 260 students participate in the award each year at Waldegrave.
Students take 6 months to a year to complete each stage of the award. We aim to encourage service to the community through volunteering, development of practical skills, participation in physical activity, and a spirit of adventure in their expedition. All sections of the award require a regular commitment outside of normal lesson time for about one hour per week and for a number of months. There are no absolute standards of ability in each activity as it is all about development of the individual.
Recent expeditions include Year 9 Bronze in the Surrey Hills and Year 10/11 in Ashdown Forest and the New Forest.
Gold participants can be registered through the school, but a greater level of independence is expected and students will arrange their own expedition and residential.
