Parents
“Parental engagement in children’s learning makes a difference, a very big difference. It is the most powerful school improvement lever we have.”
Power and Goodall (2008) - Do Parents Know They Matter? (p.167)
Partnership
At Waldegrave School, we believe that parent and family involvement in students’ education promotes learning as a lifelong skill for all. To this end, we would ask you to enter into a partnership with the school; a partnership that actively promotes both independence and resilience on the behalf of the student.
Communication
As with any partnership, communication is key, and we aim to maintain a constant dialogue with parents through our newsletters, SMS, E-mail, Parent Consultation Evenings, Information / Curriculum Evenings and our annual Parent Forum. We are also launching a new Parent Bulletin as another method of communication with you, as well as continuing to use the StudyBugs APP through which you will be able to report an absence.
You Said / We Did
‘The way my child's progress is reported in Year 8 is quite confusing...'
We have developed a new, streamlined reporting system that will be sent to you alongside straightforward parent guides to ensure you have a clear idea of what is going well for your child, and where there could be improvements made.
‘Some schools use StudyBugs to report absences - why doesn’t Waldegrave?’
We will continue to use StudyBugs as a means of reporting absence. The medical guidance provided by the NHS, which is a feature of the APP, continues to be very helpful to families.
Waldegrave School aims to work in partnership with parents across all years. Our Home School Agreement outlines the ways in which parents, students and the school can work together to ensure that all our students enjoy school, achieve their potential and are empowered to go on to the next step in their lives with success.
