Myth & Voice Storytelling Workshop with Royal Holloway University

On Thursday 11 June we were very lucky to be offered a Myth & Voice Storytelling Workshop with Dr Efi Spentzou from Royal Holloway University.

A group of KS3 students explored a 4,000-year-old Minoan Greek painting as a visual stimulus for creative storytelling. Working collaboratively, they carefully observed the details, characters, colours, and actions shown in the artwork and discussed what might be happening in the scene.

Working in small groups the students shared ideas and built a story together based on their interpretations of the painting. They used visual prompts and collaborated with each other to develop characters, settings and events to create their own graphic novel.

Amelie N, a Year 12 student who supported Mrs Croucher with this event said: “It was so fun and lovely to see young people connect to and explore such a historical piece of art.”
Our pupils really enjoyed the session, with Hattie TM from Year 7 commenting: “I loved the storytelling cafe and wish there were more sessions.  I liked meeting new people and working together especially alongside Year 9 students.”

A huge thank you to our Sixth Form students Amelie N and Chloe R for volunteering to support the event.
