Year 8 Take on The Physical Challenge!

Forget textbooks this week, Year 8 turned statisticians, putting their maths skills to the ultimate test with The Physical Challenge! Working in teams, students went head-to-head investigating bold hypotheses linking physical fitness to body measurements: do taller students really jump further in a standing long jump? Does a wider wingspan mean a longer
frisbee throw? Only data could tell.

Tape measures at the ready! Year 8 swapped the classroom for the great outdoors, taking to the field for a lesson of fast-paced, hands-on data collection. And the surprise stars of the show? A brave band of staff volunteers, who stepped up to be tested too! So keep your eyes peeled for some familiar faces in the pictures!

Back in the classroom, students crunched their numbers using tables, bar charts and pie charts, before squaring up in a final showdown of team presentations, pitching their hypotheses and arguing their case with persuasive flair and solid numerical proof. Huge congratulations to all our budding statisticians on their hard work, creativity, and competitive spirit! Those who didn’t get a chance to take part this week will be getting statistically challenged next week.
