Students elected to Kingston and Richmond Youth Council

During March the Kingston and Richmond Youth Council ran elections across the borough with nearly 150 pupils in Richmond competing for a role on the Youth Council. The votes were open from 1 to 31 March, with Waldegrave pupils encouraged to cast their votes with reminders during tutor times.

Six Waldegrave pupils from Year 9, 10 and 11 put themselves forward, writing their own manifestos or even recording a video covering what they hoped to achieve if voted in. We are delighted to say that when the results came in last week, we heard that all six were elected and will be taking a place on the Kingston and Richmond Youth Council. We are very proud of their hard work and determination to take part in the democratic process and look forward to hearing about their achievements in office over the next two years.

We are proud to share that following these elections Waldegrave has also been awarded in recognition of the huge turnout of Waldegrave students casting their votes. Over 800 pupils from our school took part in the voting process, which is an incredible participation rate of over 80% of all Waldegrave School pupils.

A very well done to everyone who took part by standing as a candidate or taking part in the voting process, this is particularly important as many of our current pupils will be eligible to vote in the next general election.
