Sixth Form Bulletin – Week 2

It has been really wonderful welcoming the new cohort of Year 12 students to Waldegrave. Last week, they took part in an induction session where they had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Sixth Form, our rules, as well as get to know their form tutors and other fellow students. They have now been attending their timetabled lessons for a full week and everyone seems to be settling in well.

We were delighted to host our annual information evening on Tuesday, where both Mr Bannister and I talked to parents about the Sixth Form rules as well as plans for the remainder of the academic year.

Students attended an assembly on Wednesday afternoon led by Mr Bannister who shared the details of our enrichment programme and the options students have. Enrichment sessions take place once per fortnight with attendance compulsory for all students. In addition to these activities, the PE and Performing Arts Departments offer a plethora of activities open to all Year 12 students and I would encourage them to take advantage of the opportunities available. Information on this has been shared with the students on their Google classrooms.

This week the photography department has launched our annual wildlife photography competition. To take part students are encouraged to take a picture of the wildlife around them using either their phones or a camera. Entries must be submitted by the 6 November to wildlifephotographer@waldegravesch.org

The selected photos will feature in the Waldegrave Wildlife Calendar and the winners will be treated to a trip to the Wildlife Photographers Exhibition at the Natural History Museum!

The final deadline for students to request a subject change is next Friday, 18 September. As a reminder, if a student is making such a request they will need to book an appointment to see me through the Sixth Form reception.

Finally, students are expected to keep up to date with both their school emails and announcements from the Sixth Form on the different Google Classrooms. Please remind your child that this is their responsibility.

It has been lovely welcoming all students back into Year 13. I hope they all had a restful summer and are settling back into lessons well. They have been reminded of the expectations around attendance and punctuality and have had an assembly this week with Mr Bannister outlining where they should be with their UCAS progress.

Students will be well aware there are more mocks this term and I know they will want to build on the lessons they learnt from the last mocks. We will support students through this process and it has already been reiterated to all of them that they should pass on any concerns they have to their tutor, myself or any of their teachers. We know the pressures and challenges of Year 13 and we are all here to support them.

This week I have added both the Music and Sixth Form sport extracurricular timetables to the students’ tutor groups classrooms.
