Headteacher's Message

AMBER WEATHER WARNING: Extreme Heat next week
We have issued safety guidance to students during tutor time today. Please take a look at this presentation as we would appreciate your support with this at home.

Well done and congratulations to our Year 11 and 13 students for getting through the GCSE and A-Level Exams. I am sure it is a huge relief to them all to be free to enjoy their summer break. Thursday was time to say our farewells to the Year 13 students who have worked so hard and we have watched mature over the past two years. Many of these students we have watched grow from nervous, excited Year 7s who joined us in September 2019! From all the staff at Waldegrave, I would like to wish all students leaving the Sixth Form this year the best of luck with the future, wherever their journey takes them. Our door will remain open for guidance and support, both on results day and beyond. We look forward to seeing them in August for their results days when we will be available to celebrate and support with next steps.

Today it was back to the other end of the school, with half of the Year 7 cohort taking their parents and carers on a tour of Waldegrave. They got to show their families their form rooms and where all their classes take place, including science labs, the studio theatre, foodtech as well as our lovely outside spaces!

Year 10 started their assessments this week, which will help measure their progress and importantly help practice formal exam regulations. They have demonstrated a very sensible approach towards these exams, showing great maturity and have another week to go. We appreciate your support at home during this time to ensure they are well rested and balance their revision with plenty of breaks.

On Tuesday a group of very talented Year 9 students pitched their Music Lingo App, which aims to support musicians to share songs globally by translating them, in the finals of the Apps for Good programme. The judging panel included a grilling by a copyright lawyer but they were also encouraged to think big and expand their idea to be successful commercially. As well as being judged by the panel the team are also looking for votes for the People’s Choice Award. Please follow this link and cast your vote for MUSIC LINGO. Voting is open until 5pm on Monday.

Following the end of exams, Year 11 pupils with offers to attend the Sixth Form at Waldegrave were invited to an open morning of taster sessions. On Wednesday we had approximately 260 students trialling A-level classes in the subjects they are considering studying, from economics to physics, english to psychology. They also had time to meet and speak to Sixth Form staff about their A-Level choices ahead of the enrolment day in the summer. As the Sixth Form was closed to current students for the day, the Year 11s were able to enjoy using the coffee shop and social spaces all to themselves!

Finally our second cohort of Year 9s have been undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh, Bronze training expedition in the Surrey Hills over the past two days. Well done to everyone for showing perseverance and determination, while keeping a smile on your faces. Enjoy a good rest this weekend, ahead of next week’s final assessment!

I wish you all a wonderful weekend,

Ms E Tongue

Year Group Messages

Year 12

Congratulations to our year 12 Drama students who performed their exam piece on Wednesday. It was an extremely thought provoking play focusing on misogynism and feminism from past to present day. I was very impressed with the hard work that had been put into devising the play.

On Wednesday our Year 12 English Literature and Drama students attended a performance of The P Word by Waleed Akhtar at the Bush Theatre, Shepherd’s Bush. As the play centered on the lives of two gay Pakistani men in the UK, it drew on complex themes that intersect with the current texts the English students are studying in English Literature for the ‘Identity and Belonging’ Coursework component. For students studying Drama, it was a wonderful opportunity for students to experience new writing.  All students who attended really enjoyed the play and you can read a review by Year 12 student, Emily H on our news pages.

The RPE department was delighted to welcome Reverend Helen Calner from St Augustine of Canterbury Church, Hospital Bridge Road, Whitton, to the school on Thursday 18 June 2026.

Reverend Calner delivered an engaging talk to Year 12 A Level Religious Studies students on the themes of Gender and Theology. During the session, students explored the roles of women in the Bible and examined the history of women within the Church.

The students were fully engaged throughout the discussion, asking thoughtful questions and contributing enthusiastically to the conversation. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of contemporary theological issues and enrich their classroom learning.

A reminder to inform sixthform@waldegravesch.org if your child(ren) will be attending a University open day so we can prepopulate the registers.

Have a lovely weekend!

Health & Wellbeing

The government has introduced new relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education guidance, that we’re required to follow from 1 September 2026. It features new statutory content, which includes a focus on tackling misogyny and navigating toxic online cultures, as well as reflecting the changes around the recent amendments to the Equality Act regarding sex and gender.

We are working hard to make sure our new curriculum meets the government’s requirements, as well as the needs of all our pupils. In Years 7 to 11, RSE is taught primarily through students’ Personal Development and Citizenship (PDC) lessons, as well as across the curriculum in subjects such as RPE and in tutor times and assemblies. In the Sixth Form, it is delivered through the tutorial programme, assemblies and drop down events. The lesson resources we use have primarily been developed by the PSHE Association or, if developed by other organisations, been awarded the PSHE Association Quality Mark.

Our curriculum aims to support students to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives in the future, within a safe and supportive environment in which to discuss sensitive and challenging topics. It functions as the preventative curriculum branch of our school safeguarding strategy, so that students are given time and space to explore and discuss the challenges and opportunities of an ever-changing modern Britain. Students are given opportunities to reflect on and clarify their own values and attitudes, while developing empathy and understanding of the views of others. They also learn how to manage their own feelings and behaviours, support each other, and get help for themselves or their friends when they need it.
