Live Lounge returns to Waldegrave

Article by Zara K, 10FLE

For those who have not attended before, Live Lounge is an opportunity to showcase your musical talent in front of an audience. This can help GCSE students, boost confidence levels, and give students an opportunity to spend time with new people. To enter Live Lounge as a part of the ensemble, students must attend auditions which are held after school and this can be done solo or in a group. You can choose to perform any song you wish whether that’s your Grade 7 piano piece or your favourite 90’s song, it’s completely up to you!

Live Lounge takes place in the hall with one interval where the audience have an opportunity to buy snacks and drinks. At the end of the evening, the audience could donate a small amount to Waldegrave’s music department; this could help future students and performances.

There was a lot of talent in the room as we had performers from Year 7 to Year 13. The variety of music played felt never ending, with genres ranging from opera, jazz, pop, original compositions, musical numbers, instrumental pieces, bilingual songs and more!

The backstage crew definitely deserve a large round of applause for the work they put into this event. When technical difficulties occurred, the crew were on it straight away and never left the audience waiting for long. There were students fixing the lights, moving microphones and amps between songs, and students showing the audience where to go and how to pay for donations. And of course, a big round of applause was held for Ms Lewis who organised and ran the event.

The next Live Lounge performance will be taking place in February 2027 so if you’re interested in assisting or performing, come and support the arts!
