Headteacher's Message

This is our final bulletin for the Spring Term. It has whizzed by as we knew it would with only five weeks in this half term and so much to fit in. The trips have included visits to the Natural History Museum for our Wildlife Photographer competition winners, listening to the annual world traders Tacitus lecture for Sixth Formers, attending the Old Operating Theatre to support the history of medicine unit for Year 10s, a theatre trip to see ‘Our Town’ for Year 12s, conferences for Sixth Formers – Maths in Action, Medics Conference, the Candle Conference and a Community Safety Conference. This has all been in addition to departmental events such as the talk with feted playwright Ava Pickett, the Independent State Schools Partnership (ISSP) music day, Richmond Music Trust’s Choirs Connect and our wonderfully fun Waldegrave Bake Off!

I’m not quite sure how we have fitted it all in but the students have certainly excelled as this week’s termly celebration assemblies demonstrated. These events recognise the achievements of the term for each year group and this week we celebrated with Year 9, Year 10, Year 11 and Year 13 all marking their successes.

Congratulations to 8PCO this week’s winners of the Year 8 Bake Off Challenge – we had a few Sixth Formers enjoying being part of the judging panel this week too! Their chocolate and strawberry cupcakes with a chocolate curl were a real standout but everyone of the entries was thoroughly enjoyed by the judges at breaktime today. Well done to runners up 8PFO and 8FGC.

Today we have also cracked a few jokes for Comic Relief and we are very grateful for all the donations received for today’s non-uniform day in aid of this fantastic cause. We have raised over £1200 and will keep the ParentPay account open this week for any additional donations.

Next week there will be no parental bulletin but our termly School Magazine will be published. I do hope you enjoy reading the pupils’ articles covering the events of this past term.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend, especially those celebrating Eid ul Fitr and Nowruz or Persian New Year, may you all enjoy this special celebration.

As this is the last bulletin of the term I will also wish you all a great Easter break and remind those preparing for exams to make time for some rest and relaxation too.

Year Group Messages

Year 12

On Tuesday afternoon, we were delighted to host an A Level Music student conference, as part of the Richmond Arts Phenomenal Females festival. Marina Solek (violin) accompanied by Antonio Oyarzabal (piano) discussed the symphonies and chamber music of female composers who are still excluded from the exam boards’ syllabus and not commonly performed in the canon of works. We were joined by students from Hampton School, LEH, SRRCC, St Marylebone, Tiffin boys, St Dominic’s Sixth Form College and Kew House School with all the content selected to support the wider listening component of the A Level Music syllabus. All of our A Level Music students, including our guests found it an extremely beneficial and enriching experience.

On Thursday we had our Year 12 end of term celebration assembly. During this assembly students are awarded for showing resilience in the face of adversity, progress made over the term, positive attitude and engagement in learning, getting actively involved in subject-related activities and working collaboratively with others. It is always so lovely to see our students awarded for their hard work and to see their peers celebrating their success.

This is a reminder that if any students have any clashes on their Year 12 mock exam timetable to please inform Ms Pugh.

On the 23rd April, all Year 12 students will be attending a UCAS discovery event in Farnborough. The aim of this event is to help students decide on their next steps. They will be able to chat to universities and colleges about their courses and University life, as well as speak to employers and apprenticeship providers about what an apprenticeship is like, the options available and listen to talks from experts in their fields.

The last day for Year 12 will be on the 26th March. This will be a full day and all students are expected to attend all their lessons.

We hope they all have a lovely Easter break!

Ms R Pugh, Head of Year 12

Year 13

Year 13 students have had yet another busy week in and out of lessons. Students continued to work hard addressing any arising issues following the feedback they have been receiving from their subject teacher on the back of the February mocks.

On Tuesday afternoon, we were delighted to host an A Level Music student conference, as part of the Richmond Arts Phenomenal Females festival. Finally, Waldegrave is supporting a former student by sharing her fundraiser for Beat, the UK’s leading eating disorder charity, which does vital work supporting those affected by eating disorders. If you would like to learn more or contribute, please visit the JustGiving website.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Health & Wellbeing

The Big Walk and Wheel 2026 Monday 16 March – Friday 27 March 2026 Big Walk and Wheel is the UK’s largest inter-school walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge. It encourages pupils to swap the car for active journeys to school, helping to improve local air quality, boost wellbeing and healthy habits.

Active travel offers huge benefits for everyone, including cleaner air, healthier communities and more vibrant streets. But safety concerns remain a significant barrier for many women and girls who want to travel actively.

Research from Cycling UK shows that: 58% of women limit cycling due to safety concerns 66% feel unsafe walking at night at least sometimes 20% never walk at night The good news is that change is possible. Where protected cycle lanes, improved lighting, cycling campaigns and thoughtfully designed public spaces have been introduced, confidence and participation increase.

The #AndSheCycles campaign empowers teenage girls to get on their bikes by creating safe, supportive spaces to build confidence. The pupil-led Ambassador Programme, supported by the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, is helping more girls choose cycling with confidence. Click here to find out more.
