The PAN (published admissions number) for Year 12 is 20 [see note below]

Year 12 – A minimum of 20 places will be offered to external applicants. The School aims for a year group of approximately 180 to 200 in Year 12 which includes internal and external applicants. Please see the grid below for more details on admissions in the last three years.

Admissions to Year 7 for September 2026

Admissions for Year 7 who live in the borough of Richmond upon Thames are managed by Achieving for Children in partnership with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and not by the school. Offers for September 2025 will be sent out by the Local Authority.

Applications from Richmond’s residents should be made online via www.eadmissions.org.uk. Online applications open on Monday 1 September and close on Friday 31 October.

Admission to Year 12 for September 2026

Applications for places in the Sixth Form at Waldegrave School are made directly through the Sixth Form. Students must submit their application in accordance with the timeline provided on the school’s website.

Please note that applications for 2026 will open in the Autumn.

You will need to contact your home borough for guidance if you do not live in the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames.

Late applications

Applications for Year 7 received after the closing date of 31 October 2024 will only be considered after all applications received by the closing date. This is unless you are able to provide proof that there were exceptional reasons that prevented you from applying on time. Late applications are co-ordinated by the School Admissions Department at Richmond Council.

Waiting List

A waiting list for the school will be held by the Local Authority in criteria order (regardless of when an application is received) until the end of the academic year in July 2025. After this date the school waiting lists will be disbanded and parents will have to request in writing to have their child’s name added to a waiting list for the school.

Special Circumstances

If you are applying to the school under Oversubscription Criterion 2 – Exceptional Medical or Social Need, please complete the form below and submit it to the School Business Manager attaching supporting written evidence from a registered health professional.

Applications under this criterion for 2025 Year 7 applicants should be submitted by 31 October 2024.

Appeals Process

Waldegrave School Admission Appeals Timetable

If your child has been refused a place at your preferred secondary school, you may appeal the decision of the admissions authority. Your reasons for appealing will then be considered by an independent panel.

Important dates and deadlines

The following appeal dates apply to children starting school in September 2025.

Date by which an appeal must be submitted 21 April 2025
Dates when appeals will be heard Waldegrave School are using the Richmond Independent Appeals Service and appeals are scheduled to be heard on weekdays between 19 May 2025 and 23 June 2025 (excluding the May half term)
Date when appellants will be notified of their appeal hearing 10 school days in advance of the hearing
Date by which the Clerk sends the appeal papers to the parents, the panel and the admission authority 7 working days before the appeal hearing
Deadline for appellants to submit additional evidence At the specified time 5 working days before the appeal hearing.
Decision letters sent to the appellants Within 5 school days of the appeal hearing (whenever possible)

Appeals lodged after 21 April 2025 may be heard at a later date and after appeals received by the deadline.
