Eco committee kick off with a day of practical conservation in Kneller Gardners

Our Eco Committee, one of the committees of the School Council, kicked off their activities for the year with a day of practical conservation and a creative workshop. They were very lucky to have the day organised by Lets Go Outside and Learn, a community interest company who promote wellbeing through access to green space, nature and positive social environments outdoors.

Fifteen students took part in the event, heading to Kneller Gardens in the morning to learn about and take part in tasks such as shrub reduction, bramble bashing, litter picking, dead heading and dead hedge creation. They have benefitted by learning new skills from experienced volunteers and rangers, while the work they did will help to protect and support one of our community’s green spaces.

After a morning outside getting physical, they came back to school for lunch and participated in a creative workshop exploring climate themes through games and artwork. The workshop was supported by local visual artist Milly Rolle, Ms French from our Art Department, as well as staff from Lets Go Outside and Learn. The students spent time making up climate related games and creating their own visual response to the theme of climate adaption and resilience.

This was a wonderful way to inspire the students as they begin their roles on the Eco Committee and we look forward to hearing more after the half term about what they learned.
